CONGRATULATIONS to the U15 RANGERS for a stellar performance at the
Super Y North American Finals
Black Watch Premier's U15 Boys put on an excellent showing at the North American finals on Dec 2-6. Although the team went undefeated during the tournament, they found themselves locked out of the semi-finals by way of a single differential point. It was truly a bitter-sweet experience. Without any knowledge or past play experience against the teams they faced, the boys put on their boots and were ready for business in the south.
The first game against Parsipanny SC got the adrenaline flowing as the Rangers posted a convincing win over the Jersey team 5-0. With Day 1 over, the boys were off to a fast start. This was great considering next in line was the number one team from Florida.
Day 2 found the boys quiet and focused in their demeanor. Florida (West Pines) was up next. The Rangers fought tough against this offensive powerhouse only to find themselves 0-0 at the final whistle. Dante Cilento, Anthony Romeo, David Riccio, Thomas Kirk, and Kevin Chrisey shutdown this offensive juggernaut whose goal ratio was 6 to 1 against their competition.
Alliance Academy was the final game in group play. The boys knew that they would need to make up goals in order to advance. (And so did the competition!) The rangers came out flat and conceded the first goal against them in the tournament. Resiliently, they smashed forward with a 4-1 victory. Would that be enough? Unfortunately, the team from Florida put in 1 more goal against their final opponent leaving Black Watch victim to the differential.
The next day in the consolation match, the Rangers won convincingly 3-1 in rather friendly game for both teams. Although the did not advance, the Rangers were one of only two teams that went undefeated: Black Watch Premier Rangers and The National Champs!
Goals were scored by: Reid Conde, Ethan Daly, Luke Faranda, David Riccio, Anthony Romeo and Gino Rossi.

ENYYSA STATE CHAMPIONS
U17 MIDLOTHIANS
For the third time in four years the BlackWatch Midlothian U-17 boys, a member of the Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL), found themselves in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) State Cup Finals. ENYYSA is one of the largest state associations in the country; and winning the State Cup qualifies a team for the prestigious National Championship Series. In their previous two finals appearances the Midlothians found themselves runners-up. This year, on June fifth at Stringham Park in LaGrangeville, NY, facing the familiar opponent and 2010 State Cup Champions, Auburndale Bayside Aston Villa (Queens), the Midlothians hoisted the first place plaque and earned the title of State Champion with a 3-2 overtime victory.
It was an electrifying match with very gutsy play by both sides. After having lost to Bayside in the State Cup finals last year and during Region 1 Premier League play this spring, the Midlothian’s had something to prove. Coached by Jeff Rockmore and Steve Freeman, the boys came out with a vengeance and took a commanding 2-0 lead in the first twenty minutes of the game. Bayside battled back, however, and tied the score in the second half taking the game to OT. With four minutes left in overtime, Noah Rhynhart (Albany) scored his second of two goals to give the BlackWatch Midlothians their first State Cup title. Zach Rockmore (Bethlehem) accounted for the other BlackWatch goal while Evan Mendez (Ballston Spa) tallied the win in goal. This victory was a complete team effort. The core of the returning players from Latham, Colonie, Saratoga, Niskayuna and four newly rostered players from Clifton Park (2), Queensbury(1) and Yorktown Heights (1)) all contributed throughout the tournament as well as in the final match.
Winning the ENYYSA State Cup earns the Midlothians the opportunity to represent ENYYSA at the National Championship Series in Lancaster, PA played from June 30 to July 5. Here they will be pitted against the State Cup winners from the other 14 states in Region1. While the team is currently made up of 16 juniors and one senior, additional acknowledgement of individual accomplishment goes to three players that have verbally committed to Division 1 schools: Morgan Smith (Syracuse University), Noah Rhynhart (Syracuse University) and Zach Rockmore (Boston College), all juniors. According to Coach Freeman, it is probable that a number of other team members will commit to Division 1 schools in the near future.
